Russia was forced to block a draft UN Security Council resolution submitted by the United States and condemning the special operation in Ukraine, since the document was anti-Russian and anti-Ukrainian in nature.

This was stated by the permanent representative of the Russian Federation Vasily Nebenzya during his speech at the Security Council.

“The main reason for our negative vote is not what is in the project, but what is not there.

If its authors had tried to give it a look even remotely resembling a balanced document, they would not have left “outside the brackets” issues that should not be forgotten in the context of the Ukrainian problem,” Nebenzia explained.

Among these issues, the Russian permanent representative named the unconstitutional coup d'état in Kyiv in February 2014, the war that the new authorities unleashed against the inhabitants of the eastern regions of the country, their disregard for the implementation of the Minsk agreements with the connivance of Western curators, and the deployment of punitive battalions consisting of radicals on the demarcation line in Donbass and neo-Nazis.

In addition, the diplomat noted, the draft resolution does not contain a word about the crimes that have been committed in Ukraine over the past eight years.

We are talking about the protesters who were burned alive against the coup d'état in the Odessa House of Trade Unions and the execution of protesters by snipers on the Maidan.

The investigation of these tragedies was dragged out by the Kiev authorities, despite the fact that the perpetrators of the Odessa tragedy are known, and the confessions of the snipers themselves "unambiguously confirm that the massacre on Independence Square was a provocation of the Maidan leaders."

However, the West ignores all these facts or labels them as “Russian propaganda,” Nebenzia stressed.

Although it is the Western countries that are involved in the fact that the situation in Ukraine led to the current events.

“It would be nice to include in the project an honest assessment of the role of our Western colleagues in inflating the Ukrainian crisis, who not only stood behind the Maidan coup, but actually gave Kiev carte blanche for any actions and steps that are unthinkable for any civilized state,” he said. diplomat.

He explained that with the connivance of the United States and Europe, Kyiv launched a large-scale campaign to discriminate against the Russian-speaking population, glorify Nazi "heroes" and oppress the media with an alternative point of view.

“You have made Ukraine a pawn in your geopolitical game, not caring a bit about the interests of the Ukrainian people.

Responsibility for what is happening now lies not only with the current Ukrainian leadership, but also with you, gentlemen," the permanent representative of the Russian Federation said.

Fake on fake

The diplomat also drew attention to the information campaign unfolding in the Western media and social networks around the special operation of the RF Armed Forces.

He stressed that fakes are often used in it.

“I can’t help but note that our Western colleagues very often use pictures from Donbass in their propaganda frenzy, passing them off as the consequences of the so-called Russian aggression in Ukraine... The Internet is now full of such fakes,” Nebenzya said.

According to him, the spread of fakes is so blatant that even the British media corporation BBC paid attention to it.

An article appeared on its website the day before with the headline "Conflict in Ukraine: Many Misleading Images Have Arrived Online," exposing a number of fake videos and photos.

Among those checked by the BBC are footage of previous conflicts in Ukraine or elsewhere, as well as images of troops in exercises.

A publication on this topic, titled “Propaganda: Users are 'bombed' with fake videos about the invasion of Ukraine”, was also posted on the website of the American news agency AP on February 24.

“The small screen of a smartphone ... carries the threat of the instantaneous spread of dangerous and even deadly disinformation,” follows from an article in an American publication.

The unprecedented spread of fakes around Ukrainian events was also noted on February 26 by the American television channel NBC in the article “The war in Ukraine gave rise to a new wave of disinformation.”

“Video game scenes pretending to be real is a relatively new and growing form of misinformation on TikTok and Twitter.

As games become more realistic, it is gaining momentum more and more, ”the authors of the material emphasized.

As an example, they cited the publication on the official Twitter of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine of footage from the Digital Combat Simulator World flight simulator, which allegedly shows how the Ukrainian MiG-29 shoots down the Russian Su-35.

As it turned out later, the video was edited by one of the YouTube users, who directly admitted this.

However, these are single publications in the Western media.

The vast majority of foreign media and media platforms ignore the Russian point of view on current events and restrict the Russian media from broadcasting it.

So, on February 24, Facebook limited the official accounts of the Zvezda TV channel, the RIA Novosti news agency, the Lenta.Ru and Gazeta.Ru Internet resources in the ability to publish their materials for at least 90 days.

The demands of the Russian authorities to remove these restrictions were ignored by Meta, which includes the social network.

In this regard, Roskomnadzor began to restrict access to Facebook on February 25.

The agency also initiated an administrative investigation against a number of Russian media outlets that disseminated false information.

Among them are Ekho Moskvy, Mediazona*, Dozhd**, Krym.Realii***, Novaya Gazeta.

Forgotten History

Meanwhile, experts note that what is happening today in Ukraine has every reason to parallel the events in Yugoslavia, which the West tries not to remember.

Then the UN Security Council qualified the situation in Kosovo as a threat to peace, without calling Yugoslavia the party solely responsible for the deterioration of the situation.

The Security Council resolutions were addressed to all parties to the conflict.

The "threat" claim was later misinterpreted by the US and NATO countries and used as an argument for a military operation.

Another justification on their part was the statement about "humanitarian intervention" to protect human rights.

According to Serbian estimates, more than 2,500 people, including children, were killed as a result of airstrikes by the NATO military, and about 12,500 were injured. At the same time, bombs were dropped not only on military, but also on civilian objects in Yugoslavia.

And among the ammunition used by NATO were those that contained depleted uranium.

This led to a sharp increase in the level of cancer among the civilian population.

“However, neither the United States nor European countries benefit today from remembering Yugoslavia, and even more so from drawing parallels with Ukraine and the reasons that prompted Russia to launch a special operation in the country.

After all, then the whole argument breaks down in the West, ”explained political scientist Alexander Asafov in an interview with RT.

Ready to go all the way

In general, as analysts note, the West continues its course of slandering Russia and does not intend to back down from it, even when it is pointed out that the accusations against Moscow are false.

As HSE professor Dmitry Evstafiev noted in a conversation with RT, the United States and its allies have recently waged not just an informational, but also a diplomatic war against Russia.

“Today, the West has completely discarded any diplomatic and political decorum.

And they are ready to go to the end in defiance of all arguments and facts, ”the expert noted.

Evstafiev stressed that Western countries initially contributed to the development of Nazi sentiment in Ukraine, considering it an effective tool in the fight against Russia.

“The West got itself manual fascism, as in 1933-1936 in Germany.

He believed that that German fascism was under control and could be used against the USSR.

But German fascism came into conflict with Anglo-Saxon and turned into a threat to Europe.

And Ukrainian fascism remained “safe”, because the Ukrainian oligarchy had no interests other than stealing, and there is not,” the analyst explained.

In turn, Alexander Asafov noted that Western countries today demonstrate selective blindness in relation to facts, since the recognition of Kyiv's crimes does not correspond to their urgent geopolitical tasks.

“Torchlight processions, killings of civilians, persecution of objectionable media and politicians - not to see all this was a conscious choice of Europeans and Americans.

Otherwise, they would have recognized their responsibility for the lawlessness that was happening and was not stopped by them at the very beginning,” Asafov emphasized.

The bad thing is that all the statements that are now being made by Western politicians are perceived by the rest as the ultimate truth, the expert added.

“At the highest level, the West believes that its words do not need proof.

And it is very sad that analysis and any kind of fact-checking are becoming a thing of the past under the pressure of the threat of punishment for dissidents,” Asafov explained.

A similar point of view was expressed by Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the Center for European Studies at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to him, the principle of lying for the benefit of one's own interests has long been the leading one in US policy.

Moreover, they actually control the entire information space.

Indeed, at their suggestion, Europe blocks the broadcasting of Russian media, and social networks limit their platforms for them.

“Therefore, the current West deliberately imposes its vision of the Ukrainian crisis on the world and shifts the blame to Russia in a categorical manner.

After all, it is beneficial for them, as it restrains the main geopolitical competitor and adversary, ”Olenchenko summed up.
