President Vladimir Putin ordered a military invasion of Ukraine early Thursday morning.

So far, Russia has taken control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and the Black Sea island of Snake Island.

Fighting broke out in Sumy on Friday morning and in Lviv the plane sounded.

In Kiev and Kharkiv, among others, Ukrainians have sought refuge in metro stations after attacks on cities.

And during the day, detonations have taken place in Donetsk and Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, among other places.

Sanctions against Russia

Late on Thursday evening, the US presented new sanctions against Russia and during the night the EU also strengthened its sanctions, including the financial, energy and transport sectors.

The United Kingdom has also previously imposed sanctions.

Russia said on Friday it was planning counter-sanctions.

Advancing against Kiev

Early on Friday morning, a robotic attack on Kiev began.

A Ukrainian fighter jet was shot down and crashed into a residential building in central Kiev.

Just before 7 a.m., the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense stated that the military had blown up a bridge over the Teteriv River, about 50 kilometers north of Kiev - in an attempt to prevent Russian forces from entering the capital.

In the morning, there were reports of shootings and that Russian soldiers and tanks were approaching the capital of Ukraine.

Fighting has been going on ever since in Obolon in the northern part of Kiev.

Shooting has also been reported in central Kiev near the government building.

More than 100,000 have fled

It has not been determined how many people have been killed since the Russian invasion.

The UN has received reports that 25 civilians have been killed, but also notes that the actual number is likely to be higher.

In addition, many soldiers have been killed.

According to the UNHCR, more than 100,000 have so far fled Ukraine, several via the borders with Poland, Moldova, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

Ukraine's airspace has been closed since Thursday morning, as have Moldova and parts of Belarus' airspace.

The UN Security Council will vote on a resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukarina.

The vote will be held at 9 pm Swedish time.
