China News Agency reporter Zhang Shuo

2022 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Kazakhstan.

Over the years, the connotation of the relationship between the two countries has been continuously enriched, and as an important witness of the cooperation and exchanges between the two countries, the ties between the Chinese and Kazakh media have become closer.

The editor-in-chief of Kazakhstan's "Industry News" Shelik Kolzumbayev recently accepted an exclusive interview with China News Agency "East-West Question". From the perspective of media experts, he explained the role of the media in Kazakhstan-China relations, and explained in detail the role of the media in Kazakhstan-China relations. The reasons why China's authoritative media opened WeChat official accounts and set up columns such as "Silk Road" and "Window of China", to explore how to eliminate conflicts and enhance listening through civilized dialogue.

The following is a summary of the interview transcript:

China News Service reporter: As an authoritative media in Kazakhstan, "Industry News" has witnessed many historic moments in the exchanges between China and Kazakhstan. What impressed you the most?

What role does the media play in the development of bilateral relations?

Korzhonbayev:

Over the past 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and China, the relationship between the two countries has gone through an extraordinary course of development. Basically, it has reached a new level every ten years, and has achieved leapfrog development from friendly relations to permanent comprehensive strategic partnership.

Today, the relationship between the two countries is deepening and developing in the right direction, which will make the relationship between Kazakhstan and China more stable.

In my opinion, the two countries support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, and the cooperation within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has made important contributions to promoting regional and even world peace and stability.

In this regard, the media of the two countries have played an important role in providing people with reliable sources of information.

It is the mission and responsibility of the media to report fairly, objectively and accurately.

Only in this way can we guide readers correctly and provide sustainability for the further development of bilateral relations.

China News Service reporter: "Industry News" has opened a WeChat public account, and the official website also has columns such as "Silk Road" and "Window of China". What is the original intention of this move?

Korzhonbayev:

"Industry News" is an important comprehensive financial and economic newspaper in Kazakhstan, and has entered the ranks of influential and authoritative media in Kazakhstan.

Since its inception, "Industry News" has adhered to the principles of efficient, reliable and objective reporting, and delivered authoritative, objective and interesting news to readers.

In recent years, "Industry News" has maintained friendly and cooperative relations with Chinese media counterparts, and topics in China's economy, politics, culture, education, sports and other fields have attracted the attention of domestic readers.

With the increasingly frequent exchanges between Kazakhstan and China, the people of the two countries have a stronger demand for understanding each other's countries.

To this end, we think it is necessary to set up a special section showing Kazakhstan's information to introduce Kazakhstan to Chinese readers.

In December 2020, the WeChat public account of "Industrial News" was officially opened.

China is a big Internet country, and WeChat, as one of the important social platforms, has more than one billion users.

We look forward to delivering Kazakhstan's information and dynamics to more Chinese readers through this platform.

In addition, the official website of "Industry News" has also opened up columns such as "Silk Road" and "Window of China", and has become a channel for the Kazakh people to understand China, the construction of the "Belt and Road" and Kazakhstan-China relations.

President Tokayev said in an interview in January, "China is a great country, and we must continue to study China and learn Chinese." I believe this has become another example of the effective interaction between the media in Kazakhstan and China.

The "Silk Road" column of the official website pays attention to the second consumer expo, and publishes an article "more than 200 duty-free shops around the world appear at the consumer expo".

China News Service: According to the report of the "Industry Daily", which aspects of China's development are more interested in the Kazakh people, and what content does Kazakh hope to spread to the Chinese people?

Korzhonbayev:

When the website decided to use "Silk Road" and "Window of China" as the title of the column, it showed that we are working hard to increase the awareness of the two countries.

We want to show the Kazakh people a lively and interesting China that is not affected by the ubiquitous Western media propaganda and reports.

I think we did.

From the various data in the column on the website, it can be seen that more and more Kazakh people are willing to actively learn about China, and they are more interested in political and economic news and Chinese culture.

Recently, our readers have focused most of their attention on the Beijing Winter Olympics. To this end, the website has specially added a Beijing Winter Olympics column with a prominent header design to attract readers to relevant information.

China News Service: You talked about the Beijing Winter Olympics. How would you rate China's hosting of the Winter Olympics as scheduled?

Korzhonbayev:

The Beijing Winter Olympics is a world sports event, and its safe and successful holding is of symbolic significance to the world.

In my opinion, the prevention and control of the new crown pneumonia epidemic is the key to the success of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

This is the first global comprehensive sports event to be held as scheduled since the outbreak of the epidemic, demonstrating China's confidence in overcoming difficulties and overcoming the impact of the epidemic.

This is the most important contribution of the Beijing Winter Olympics to the global winter sports and the Olympic movement. It shows the world China's responsibility and brings confidence and hope to the world.

I have been paying attention to the Beijing Winter Olympics, which is not only a competitive event for the world's elite athletes, but also a stage for China to showcase the achievements of scientific and technological innovation.

I am amazed at the application of innovative equipment "Made in China".

In addition, the holding of the Olympic Games coincides with the Chinese Lunar New Year and the Spring Festival. In traditional Chinese cognition, the New Year symbolizes the beginning of the year, and the New Year meets the Winter Olympics, which is different.

The "Window of China" column of the official website published an article "The International Olympic Committee Appreciates the Anti-epidemic Measures of the Beijing Winter Olympics".

China News Agency reporter: In the current world, major changes are superimposed on a major epidemic.

The dialogue between Eastern and Western civilizations faces many challenges. On issues such as China and Central Asia, Western media reports are sometimes biased. In your opinion, how can we further eliminate conflicts and enhance listening?

How should the media create a good public opinion ecology for addressing global challenges?

Korzhonbayev:

It is no secret that the problem of bias in Western media coverage has always been prominent.

In the process of dialogue between Eastern and Western civilizations, what the media needs to do most is to analyze rationally and understand correctly, identify the complex information sources in the outside world, turn off the "black and white filter", and report truthfully and objectively.

No matter how the times change, the media should adhere to professional ethics, which is the basis for eliminating the dialogue and conflict between Eastern and Western civilizations.

As a media, honesty with readers should be a top priority.

This is our responsibility and the direction we are constantly pursuing.

The official website published an article entitled "Zero Tolerance" in China's Epidemic Prevention is an Important Factor in Reducing the Spread of the Global Epidemic.

China News Service reporter: New technologies are changing the media ecology and social interaction. What are your prospects for China-Kazakhstan media cooperation and even people-to-people and cultural exchanges?

Korzhonbayev:

Indeed, we are in an era of media transformation.

There is a close relationship between technology and media, and the application of new communication methods and other technologies has continuously improved the speed of information dissemination and expanded people's social skills and scope.

China is a country with advanced technology, modern equipment and strong innovation capability.

During the Beijing Winter Olympics, spectators and athletes from all over the world enjoyed the technological charm of the Games through a variety of modern technologies.

In the process of dealing with Chinese media counterparts, I have also seen the deepening application of many cutting-edge technologies in the media industry.

Profound changes have taken place in traditional communication methods, and improved technical support will promote the development of media integration.

I am very optimistic about the cooperation prospects between Kazakhstan and Chinese media in the field of cultural exchanges. Modern media technology will realize convenient and efficient information exchange, and technology and content will be mutually driven, giving a richer experience to media communication in the two countries.
