WHO expresses concern over a humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine

The World Health Organization on Thursday expressed concern about a possible health emergency in Ukraine after Russian forces invaded the country.

"In the midst of the rapidly developing conflict in Ukraine, the WHO Regional Office for Europe once again expresses its deep concern for the safety, health and well-being of all civilians affected by the crisis in the country and possibly beyond," the WHO Regional Office for Europe said in a statement. Another may lead to a humanitarian disaster.

"The WHO office in Europe is working closely with all United Nations partners to rapidly increase the level of preparedness to respond to the health emergency expected to result from the conflict, as well as protect our staff and reduce obstacles to the delivery of vital health care services," the statement added.
