Royals Meghan Markle receives public apology from The Daily Mail and financial compensation after winning court battle
Prince Harry has sued one of the largest British press groups, the spokesman for the couple he forms with Meghan Markle, installed in California
, reported on Wednesday
.
The spokesman has not specified any details, but the British media suggest that the complaint would affect the
Associated Newspapers
group , which publishes, among others, the popular
Daily Mail
tabloid .
The prince accuses the
Mail on Sunday
newspaper (the Sunday edition of the
Daily Mail
) of defaming him in an article alleging that he tried to keep his request for police protection secret while in
the UK
.
Harry and his wife live north of
Los Angeles
.
They decided to withdraw from the royal family in 2019, automatically depriving them of the right to police protection paid for by the British taxpayer.
Harry proposed to take care of these expenses when he is in
the UK
;
a request rejected by the
Ministry of the Interior
and which he appealed.
The entity replied that a police security device "is not available on the basis of private financing."
Harry
and
Meghan
's couple
recently filed a lawsuit against several publications for violating their family's privacy.
In December, Meghan won tabloid condemnation for publishing a letter she wrote to her father.
She then celebrated a "victory" against the sensationalist, "cruel" and "lying" press, according to her.
