Today, Thursday, the Moroccan government announced that it will bear the difference in wheat prices inside the country due to its increase due to the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.

This came in a statement by government spokesman Mustafa Baytas, during a press conference after the weekly government meeting.

Baitas said, "There are repercussions on the country, related to the prices of a group of materials, as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis... and that the government will bear the difference in prices related to wheat, and is following up on the situation regarding other materials."

He added, "The effect on the price level is a matter of course. This morning we watched how the price of oil rose significantly. Regarding market supplies, there will be no effect."

Morocco is one of the most prominent importers of wheat from Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine stands out as the fifth largest wheat exporter in the world, and is known in Europe as the bread basket;

It exported $3.1 billion worth of wheat in 2019.

At dawn on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced, in a televised statement, the launch of a military operation in the Donbas region (eastern Ukraine), accusing what he called the leading countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization "NATO" of supporting what he described as neo-Nazis in Ukraine.
