Johnson: Britain is ready to grant asylum to the Ukrainian leadership

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the United Kingdom is ready to grant asylum to the Ukrainian leadership if necessary, against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

During Johnson's address to the British Parliament and answering parliamentarians' questions, Conservative MP Julian Lewis asked him whether Britain would grant asylum to a "Ukrainian government-in-exile", as it had granted to "governments-in-exile" of the Baltic states following their annexation of the Soviet Union.

Johnson stressed that Britain will provide Ukraine with all the support it will need.

Johnson added that during his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday morning, he spoke with him that the Ukrainian president might need a "safe haven" for him, according to the British newspaper, "The Guardian".

This comes against the backdrop of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, which began on Thursday morning.
