The noise takes getting used to.

If you don't warn your partner about what's about to come out of the washing machine, you can look forward to a puzzled look - but someone may get a real shock.

That was the case with me.

Tennis balls at decent RPM (please not 1400 or something like that) pack quite a punch.

But in this case, they do something good.

Because the filling of a pillow, for example, has to be cleaned at some point.

Regular moving alone is not enough to ensure cleanliness here.

Night sweats, fat, skin particles, saliva - there are many things that can cause unwanted guests to nest in the bedding, bacteria and house dust mites, for example.

The rule of thumb is: such a pillow should, depending on the filling, be washed in the washing machine once or twice a year.

Therefore, the first tip applies to the purchase: the new part should be able to withstand 60 degrees in the machine.

Filling material in the pillow must have space

But now to the real point: the pillow to be washed belongs in the machine without further dirty laundry and without a cover, it gets this wash cycle exclusively, because the filling material must have space so that it is not compressed too much.

That's what it's all about here anyway: How do you ensure that the material in the laundry doesn't completely clump together - especially if there's no dryer in the laundry room?

A down detergent alone cannot prevent this effect.

Incidentally, fabric softeners are forbidden in these cases anyway.

The delicate or wool wash program is the right one, because it depends on the gentle spin.

With the "Wool" program, however, you can expect a very long drying process.

And now comes the point and the real tip: This spin cycle should also be enriched in the washing machine by adding two or three clean tennis balls.

They ensure that nothing clumps or sticks together - and that the cushions come out of the machine like new.

Then off to the dryer at 40 degrees and again with the balls until everything is completely, completely dry.

Don't have a dryer?

Please wash your pillows in summer.

And when you play tennis, you simply use other balls.
