Ukraine's parliament has approved a declaration of emergency amid growing fears of a Russian invasion.

Reuters and others reported that the Ukrainian parliament held a vote yesterday (23rd) local time and made this decision.

Earlier, Ukraine's Defense Security Council announced that it had decided to declare a state of emergency for all countries except Donetsk and Lugansk, which are controlled by pro-Russian rebels.

The declaration of emergency is effective for 30 days from 10 p.m. on the 23rd of Ukraine local time, and applies to all countries except Donetsk and Lugansk.

Depending on the circumstances, it may be extended for an additional 30 days by the decision of the President.

If a state of emergency is declared, the free movement of civilians may be restricted, such as intensifying checkpoints and barring going out or traveling at night.

Immigration may be restricted and certain political activities and strikes may be banned.

The National Defense Security Commission said curfews could be imposed in some areas as part of an emergency measure.
