In South Korea, the birth rate, which is an indicator of the number of children a woman gives birth to, hit a record low of 0.81 last year, and the declining birthrate continues to be unstoppable.

According to the Korean National Statistical Office announced on the 23rd, the "total fertility rate", which is an indicator of the number of children a woman will have in her lifetime, was 0.81 last year, and since 1970 when she started collecting statistics. It hit a record low, 0.03 points below the lowest deceased.

The birth rate has fallen below the previous year for the sixth consecutive year, and the declining birthrate has not stopped.

South Korea is the only member of the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) with a fertility rate of less than 1.

The number of children born in the last year was the lowest ever at 260,000, while the number of deaths was 317,800 due to the aging of the population and the effects of the new coronavirus. The population has surpassed and the population has declined naturally for the second consecutive year.

The Statistics Korea analyzes that the decline in the birth rate is due to the fact that the population of women in their 30s is declining and the number of people getting married is decreasing, and how to support young people who will lead the future. That is one of the important issues in the presidential election next month.
