Eastern Europe is preparing for the possibility of a war between Ukraine and Russia, and not only from a military point of view.

Romania, bordering Ukraine, expects an influx of refugees in the event of an invasion.

"Several estimates are being studied, but we could welcome more than 500,000 refugees, this is the figure for which we are prepared," Defense Minister Vasile Dancu told reporters.

According to him, the authorities plan to set up reception structures, particularly in large towns along the common border measuring 650 km.

"For the moment, this is a purely hypothetical situation", specified the minister, possible refugees can also choose to go to Poland.

Romanian authorities, including President Klaus Iohannis, on Tuesday strongly condemned Moscow's recognition of pro-Russian separatist regions of Ukraine, calling for a "stern response from the international community".

Klaus Iohannis also announced on his Twitter account that he had met in the afternoon with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda and with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, in particular sanctions to be imposed "without delay" on the Russia.
