There are three possible scenarios for the E4 through Jönköping in the future: a diversion of the motorway, a partial canopy on the existing section or that it will more or less remain unchanged with minor rebuilds.

Ann-Marie Nilsson believes that the state, led by the Swedish Transport Administration, must speed up the process and be prepared to act.

"Municipalities are running faster, municipalities' population growth is much faster than the state's infrastructure has time for," she says.

Take a look at how other municipalities have done

Ann-Marie Nilsson is supported by the Social Democratic municipal councilor Mona Forsberg, who says that the municipality will present a new report on E4 in the spring.

There will also be a dialogue with municipalities where they have moved or otherwise rebuilt centrally located motorways so that they do not have a negative impact on the cities.

- We hope to learn lessons from how they have done, even though each municipality has its special conditions, says Forsberg.

At the same time, the two municipal councils emphasize that the E4 has meant a lot to Jönköping's development, but that the increasingly intensive traffic on the motorway risks becoming a clearer barrier in the future.

About 40 possible solutions

In addition to the municipality's report, which will be presented in the spring, the Swedish Transport Administration, together with the municipality, has recently presented a study listing about 40 possible measures on the E4.
