The largest population increase in Skellefteå in 33 years

Last year, Skellefteå municipality tightened its population target and now expects to be 90,000 inhabitants by 2030 and 100,000 inhabitants by 2040.

Even if the new figures are not really enough yet to achieve that goal, the municipal council believes that with the large industrial establishments that are underway, this is just the beginning.

- It is a magnitude of events that will take place now for many years to come.

Population increase in Västerbotten

Västerbotten County as a whole increased its population in 2021. The municipality in Västerbotten where the population increased the most by 1.2 percent was Vindeln.

But in Umeå, which for decades has been the engine of the county's population development, population growth was very modest at 0.59 percent.

Nordmaling and four inland municipalities, Dorotea, Storuman, Lycksele and Vilhelmina, decreased in population last year.
