President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to preside over the National Security Council and the NSC meeting on the 22nd at 11 a.m. on the current situation in Ukraine, the Blue House said.

"(Today's meeting), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Security and the Ministry of Economy will attend together to check the situation in Ukraine and discuss countermeasures," Blue House spokeswoman Park Kyung-mi said.

Spokesperson Park added that the NSC plenary meeting will also be held concurrently with the external economic and security strategy meeting.

It seems to mean that they will examine the domestic economic impact of the Ukraine crisis and check countermeasures.

Earlier, the United States decided to take the first de facto sanctions in relation to Russia's granting independence to the pro-Russian separatist-controlled region of Donbas, eastern Ukraine.

President Biden has issued an action order banning new investment, trade and finance by Americans in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Lugansk People's Republic (LPR) regions, formed by Donbass pro-Russian separatists.

The White House is said to be announcing additional sanctions against Russia.

It is known that the Korean government will also consider whether to participate in sanctions as soon as the request of the United States arrives.
