573 migrants were rescued overnight from Monday to Tuesday on the high seas, about 100 km from Calabria in Italy.

“Among those rescued is a deceased person who, according to the migrants, would have been dead for several days,” the statement said.
59 minors are among the migrants and a large number are unaccompanied.

A large ship, the Diciotti, as well as three coastguard launches took part in the rescue in the Italian area of competence.
It is currently heading for the Sicilian port of Augusta where the migrants will be disembarked, the statement concludes.
