Following Russia's unilateral approval of the independence of some parts of eastern Ukraine, an urgent telephone meeting was held on the night of the 22nd by the foreign ministers of the G7 = seven major countries.

After the meeting, Foreign Minister Hayashi announced that he had agreed to strongly condemn Russia's actions in violation of international law and confirmed that it would respond in close cooperation, including sanctions.

After Russia's President Vladimir Putin unilaterally approved the independence of the region controlled by pro-Russian factions in eastern Ukraine, the foreign ministers of the G7 = seven major countries said before 11:00 pm on the 22nd. An urgent telephone meeting was held for about 45 minutes, and Foreign Minister Hayashi also attended.



After the meeting, Minister Hayashi agreed on a series of Russian actions, "consensus that they violated Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and violated international law, and confirmed their position to strongly condemn them." Said.



Minister Hayashi said that the G7 will continue to pay close attention to the development of the situation with serious concern and confirm that it will respond in close cooperation, including sanctions.



On top of that, Minister Hayashi said, "I have expressed my intention to cooperate with the G7 and other international communities to urgently coordinate strict measures, including sanctions against Russia."



Minister Hayashi also announced that he did not plan to issue a joint statement at this meeting.
