"Russia's recognition of the so-called Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) - regions of Ukraine, contradicts Russia's obligations under the Minsk agreements, threatens peace, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine," RIA Novosti quotes the text of the decree.
As emphasized, the recognition of the LPR and the DPR is "an unusual and extraordinary threat to US national security and foreign policy."
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, in his video message, said that the recognition of the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics is a violation of Ukraine's sovereignty.
On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees on Russia's recognition of the independence of the LNR and the DNR.
During the address, the President stressed that the situation in Donbass has become critical against the backdrop of Kiev's actions.
