For some time now, it has been legislated that all municipalities in Sweden need a whistleblower function for their employees.

- A whistleblower case could, for example, be a corruption case, that for example someone got something during a public procurement, says Anna Johansson Miettinen, human resources manager Gällivare municipality.

According to her, the system that the municipality purchases must be built so that the person who reports an incident can be anonymous.

Municipal companies are also covered

Depending on what functions the system should have, the cost will be between 20,000 and 70,000 kronor per year.

When the decision was made, the municipality's politicians decided that the municipal companies should also be included.

- The idea is that you should be able to report things, not labor law.

This is about things that are going on and that you want to raise and there is a ban on reprisals - with this system there is no traceability, says the human resources manager.

No ongoing cases today

According to Anna Johansson Miettinen, there is no example at present where it would be good if the system was activated, however, she believes that the whistleblower system could make it easier to bring things to the surface.

- If you lift things, you should be able to feel safe, that's why the law exists and now you screw up for this and more people become relevant.
