The intensive and fruitless search efforts have ended, both for the police and Missing People.

The search areas were mainly based on the suspect's information.

In order to be able to resume search operations, the police need to obtain information on new, delimited areas.

Otherwise it will be like searching at random.

- Sweden is large and now the preliminary investigation needs to lead the search forward, says Magnus Karlsson at the police in Skaraborg.

Victim of crime

He and his investigators assume that the woman has been the victim of a crime.

- There is nothing to indicate that she would stay away voluntarily, he states.

To streamline the further investigation, the police are today starting a so-called PUG group, with a number of different competencies.

These investigators should only deal with the case.

- We have many other cases that must be handled in parallel.

It is a great advantage that PUG will only work with this case.

In addition, it will be a structured way of working according to established routines, says Magnus Karlsson.

PUG includes specially trained investigators accustomed to working according to the concept, as well as special skills such as civilian analysts, technicians and more.

The group will probably also contact GMP, the Perpetrator Profile Group, for advice and support.

Many investigative measures

Since the police know which car the suspect and the missing woman were traveling in, petrol stations along the road, surveillance and traffic cameras, the suspect's home and more are checked.

Furthermore, the investigators are working to map in detail both the suspect and the missing woman, their relationship and circle of acquaintances.

At the same time, the interrogations continue with the man, who denies the crime.

The risk that the investigators will suffer from tunnel vision and become completely focused on the detained man is almost non-existent, according to Magnus Karlsson.

- In all police investigative work, you bring that with you.

We know that we must work objectively and also investigate alternative hypotheses, he says.

Footnote: PUG stands for the Police's methodological support for the investigation of serious violent crimes.
