The documents instruct the Russian Ministry of Defense, in connection with the appeal of the heads of the LPR and the DPR, to ensure the "implementation by the Armed Forces of Russia" on the territory of these republics of "peacekeeping functions."

Earlier, Putin signed agreements with the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics on cooperation.

Decrees on the recognition of the republics were also signed.
