The entourage of Eric Zemmour welcomed with serenity the IFOP poll according to which the candidate would be in the second round.

While Emmanuel Macron must officially represent himself soon, the ex-journalist wants to take advantage of this new position to become the first opponent of the head of state.

Are we heading for a second round Macron-Zemmour?

In any case, this is what is emerging according to the latest IFOP survey published on Friday.

The former journalist is credited with 16.5% of voting intentions, ahead of Marine Le Pen (16%) and Valérie Pécresse (15%).

For his part, Emmanuel Macron enjoys the favor of 25% of respondents and is still racing well ahead of his opponents.

News received with serenity

But it does not matter, since for the first time since November, Eric Zemmour is given to the second round.

A news welcomed with serenity by the team of the candidate who says to have welcomed these last polls without real surprise, but without managing to hide their greed.

For them, it is only the concretization of the strong audiences, the crowds in the meetings and the fervor felt since the start of this campaign.

But the entourage of the candidate is above all attentive to the timing.

Zemmour wants to become Macron's first opponent

Because being given to the second round a few days before Emmanuel Macron's declaration of candidacy is the ideal scenario for Eric Zemmour.

After having targeted Marine Le Pen then Valérie Pécresse to play the unifier of the rights, the candidate wants to take advantage of this new position to take on the role of first opponent to the head of state.

It is against him that he will now concentrate his attacks.

A strategy started elsewhere on Saturday during a speech at the foot of Mont Saint-Michel, where he accused Emmanuel Macron of being the "president of nothingness".

Moreover, Éric Zemmour is convinced that the outgoing president will choose him as his main opponent, effectively eclipsing the other candidates.
