Yesterday, Sunday, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed a project to open a maritime line to transport goods and travelers between Algeria and the Qatari capital, Doha.

The Algerian president stressed - during his meeting with representatives of the Algerian community in Qatar on the sidelines of his state visit to Doha - that this project will be materialized before the end of this year.

Tebboune stated that these projects come in parallel with the project to expand the port of "Gingen" in the province of Jijel, eastern Algeria, which aims to make it the "port of Africa" ​​by linking it to the railway network that extends to Africa.

Tebboune had arrived in Qatar - the day before yesterday, Saturday - on a visit during which he will participate in the sixth summit of heads of state and government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, which is being held in Doha.

Tebboune explained that relations between Algeria and Qatar have "promising and important prospects" in many sectors, such as agriculture, building cities, basic facilities and railways, pointing to talks in this regard that allow the development of the national railway network and its extension to each of the states of Tamanrasset and Adrar (the southernmost). Algeria), and even abroad, such as Niger.

The development of non-hydrocarbon exports

The Algerian president also revealed that his country aspires to collect $15 billion in non-hydrocarbon exports in the coming years, to get rid of its dependence on hydrocarbons.

Tebboune confirmed that exports outside hydrocarbons amounted to $4.8 billion last year, pointing out that they will reach $7 billion next year.

Tebboune said that Algeria is the only country in the region (North Africa) that does not have foreign debts.

Tebboune stressed the continuation of combating corrupt money and pushing the Algerian economy forward by simplifying and improving the investment climate, as well as taking care of the social aspect of citizens.

He also pointed out that "the unemployment grant that was recently introduced is considered one of the measures approved by Algeria in this regard, to the exclusion of other countries in the region."

Signing agreements

Bilateral talks between the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune concluded in the Qatari capital, Doha, with the signing of a number of agreements to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, education, housing and justice.

Yesterday afternoon, the Amiri Diwan witnessed the signing of an agreement on legal and judicial cooperation in criminal matters between the two governments, a memorandum of understanding on the establishment of political consultations and coordination between the two countries' foreign ministries, and a memorandum of understanding in the areas of social development and the family between the two governments.

The second executive program in the field of higher education and scientific and technological research was also signed for the educational and scientific cooperation agreement between the governments of the two countries for the academic years between 2022 and 2025.
