The accompanying families of the deportees have already traveled home to Sweden at the request of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Now the staff at the embassy in the Ukrainian capital Kiev is also being reduced.

This is stated by Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) in a statement to TT.

- Due to the serious and unpredictable security situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to reduce the number of staff sent to the Swedish Embassy in Kiev, says Linde.

- The embassy is now implementing the decision in consultation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, at the same time as the necessary security measures are being taken.

Several countries are relocating staff

Ann Linde states that the government is following developments in and around Ukraine very closely and that the embassy will continue with consular activities and assistance, as well as diplomatic missions.

At the same time, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces that all staff and practical work at the country's embassy in Kiev will be moved to Lviv.

Many countries have already moved their diplomats to the city in western Ukraine.

On Saturday, the news also came that all NATO personnel would be moved from Kiev to Lviv and to Brussels, where the defense alliance is headquartered.

Since 12 February, the Swedish Foreign Ministry has been advising Swedes on all trips to Ukraine due to "the serious and unpredictable security situation in the country and its immediate area".

Swedes who are in Ukraine are asked to leave the country.

"Follows the situation very closely"

On Sunday, SAS announced that it would stop flying over Ukraine's airspace.

Tuesday's flight between Oslo and Kiev, the Scandinavian airline's weekly flights to the country, is canceled.

This is stated by a spokesperson today, and refers to the security crisis in the region.

- We have a weekly flight to Kiev from Oslo on Tuesdays which we are now pausing due to the security situation, says Freja Annamatz, press manager at SAS Sweden, to the news agency TT.

No departures from Sweden are affected at the moment, but flights from Copenhagen to Beijing and Shanghai will have changed routes due to the decision, something that Svenska Dagbladet was the first to report.

Seasonal routes to Cyprus and Crete can also be affected.

But those flights have not started yet.

The decision applies from Sunday and the rest of February.

- We will follow the development continuously and make new decisions later in February.

We follow the situation very closely, says Freja Annamatz.
