Sleep directly affects our physical and mental health, and it turns out that some foods have an effect on sleep as well, as some foods cause insomnia while others promote sleepiness.

In this report, published by the "Turkey" website, nutritionist Çağatay Demir gives some advice about diet, especially foods that are recommended to be eaten or avoided in the evening to avoid insomnia at night.

Avoid fast food and fried food

It is well known that foods rich in fats, especially trans fats, are harmful to health, and they also negatively affect sleep cycle and quality.

In order not to suffer from sleep disturbances, be sure not to eat these foods during the day, or at least in the evening.

 Cut back on sweets

We usually feel hungry soon after eating sugary foods.

Consuming sugary foods at dinner will make you feel hungry more quickly, delaying bedtime.

In order to have a good sleep, you should eat balanced dishes during the day and at dinner, in addition to choosing the appropriate type of carbohydrates.

Avoid caffeine

Avoid consuming any caffeinated beverage at least 5 hours before bedtime.

Don't eat protein for dinner

The body takes longer to digest proteins, and you can get indigestion if you eat them at dinner.

Instead, it is recommended to eat a plate rich in carbohydrates and vegetables to enhance the quality of your sleep.

Milk is useful

Drinking a glass of milk an hour before going to bed helps you sleep.

Lavender may help you

Lavender is a sleep aid with its soothing scent.

Studies have shown that inhaling lavender oil 30 minutes before bed improves sleep quality.

It can also be used in the form of a tea to drink after a tiring work day, and this will help the muscles relax and prepare the body for a restful sleep.

chamomile tea

Chamomile, known for its sedative effect, is used by people who have trouble sleeping.

And since it has no side effects, people of all ages can drink its infusion.

decaffeinated green tea

This tea is rich in antioxidants and helps calm the nerves.
