The barrier, which is 50 meters long and about one meter high, has been set up by the rescue service in Valdemarsvik by the quay.

- The barrier remains over the weekend or as long as it is needed.

The municipality is responsible for monitoring it now, says Lennart Ågren, duty officer at the Rescue Service Östra Götaland.

Yellow warning

Water must have penetrated over the quayside in Valdemarsvik and led to flooding.

However, no properties have been damaged.

A yellow warning for high water levels has been set by SMHI along the Östergötland coast.

- According to SMHI, the water level would drop but we experienced that it did not drop, explains Lennart Ågren, officer on duty and continues:

- We did this as an extra security, we wanted to save the properties on site.

The erected barrier is a form of metal scaffolding with tarpaulins that will protect against any increased water level.
