At the end of a stage without great difficulty, Ewan beat the Frenchmen Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) and Nacer Bouhanni (Arkea-Samsic).
For his first day of racing with his new TotalEnergies team, Slovak Peter Sagan, triple world champion (2015, 2016, 2017), finished late.
In the general classification, Ewan takes the yellow jersey of the event but he should not keep it for long, the last two stages, Saturday and Sunday, being reserved for the climbers.
