Due to rising labor costs in the construction industry due to labor shortages, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has decided to raise the national average "labor unit price", which is the standard for wages for public works, by 2.5% from next month.

The labor unit price is used to estimate the construction cost of public works and is the standard for wages paid to construction workers, and is reviewed every year.

Regarding this, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism announced that it will raise the national average by 2.5% from next month to 21,084 yen per day.

In addition to taking into account the fact that labor shortages continue and labor costs are rising in the construction industry, consideration was given to prevent wage levels from falling due to delays in construction and bidding due to the spread of the new corona infection.

The unit price increase will be the 10th consecutive year since 2013, when the calculation method changed significantly.

At a press conference after the Cabinet meeting, Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito said, "The wage level of the construction industry is still low compared to other industries such as the manufacturing industry. We would like to work in the public and private sectors so that the virtuous cycle in which raising the labor unit price leads to raising the wages of skilled workers in the field will continue. "
