The cause of the fire has not been completely determined, but according to the report, most suggest a dry cooking.

If the authorities and the municipality had the authority to intervene against people with a known risk behavior - Ångebranden could have been prevented, according to the Rescue Service.

- The most likely are stove-related.

With the probable scenario, it has been possible to prevent it.

This is part of the conclusion we have drawn, Mattias Andersson, head of investigation and operations at Medelpad's Rescue Services Association.

Rapid spread

Other conclusions address construction and building materials:

"Had the balconies of the balconies, side panel and wall panel not consisted of so much wood, the spread of the fire would probably not have been as fast"

Can be prevented- wants a review of rules

The report also highlights that more fires could have been prevented with the right powers and working methods.

And a review of regulations is proposed in which several authorities, including the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB should be involved.

"For a period of just over a year, the Rescue Service Medelpad has had four fatal fires where the community before the fires somehow knew about a risk behavior or problem at the addresses."

Alarmed several times

To the address in Ånge, the rescue service has been alerted twice before the fire and private individuals have on several occasions intervened and prevented the fire.

The rescue service claims that

routines for handling and acting in the event of similar incidents need to be developed

and asks a question in the report about the hopelessness felt in the rescue service.

"How long should we accept that society knows about shortcomings but does not have sufficient opportunity to act when there are obvious needs?"
