Hessian students are to learn in person again in the summer semester.

Minister of Science Angela Dorn (Die Grünen) and the presidiums of the state universities have agreed on this.

On Friday, Dorn referred to the high vaccination rate among students of up to 95 percent as well as test and hygiene concepts that offer good protection against the corona virus.

Digital teaching formats are still possible, above all as a supplement to campus teaching and to improve quality.

According to the minister, the universities have come through the pandemic well so far thanks to the flexibility and sense of responsibility of students and lecturers.

However, as “open places for communication and opinion-forming”, universities also thrive on personal exchange.

Frankfurt University President Enrico Schleiff told the FAZ that he was aiming for “100 percent attendance” for the summer semester.

Completely digital events are only possible if there are special reasons for this, for example in the context of international cooperation.

As in the winter semester, the Goethe University wants to make full use of its room capacities.

"Our experience shows that compulsory masks and ventilation offer very good protection against infections, even with high incidences." Access controls should be avoided in the summer semester, added Schleiff.

As far as the legislation allows, the university wants to be reopened to external people, such as third-year university participants.
