The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) warned the Israeli occupation against crossing the "red lines" in the occupied city of Jerusalem, stressing that the resistance factions will not allow the suffering of Palestinian prisoners to continue inside Israeli prisons.

Head of Hamas' political department in the Gaza Strip, Basem Naim, said that any violation of the red lines in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, Al-Aqsa Mosque or any other area in occupied Jerusalem will have serious repercussions, and may prepare the atmosphere for the next explosion.

Naim added - in a statement - that Jerusalem is the essence of the conflict and part of the nation's faith, and what happens in it does not concern Jerusalemites alone, but concerns all Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims.

He stressed that the leadership of the resistance and the Palestinian people "will not stand idly by regarding what is happening to our people and their sanctities in occupied Jerusalem."

Yesterday evening, Thursday, Israeli forces suppressed dozens of Palestinians from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood (east of Jerusalem) and in solidarity with them, and closed the neighborhood with iron barriers.

The sit-in by the people of Sheikh Jarrah and their solidarity with them comes after the far-right MP Ben Gvir, last Sunday, set up a tent on private Palestinian land in the neighborhood, considering it his office.

Ben Gvir was accompanied by dozens of Israeli settlers who attacked Arab homes in the neighborhood with stones. This sparked confrontations between the Palestinians on one side, and the settlers and the occupation police on the other.

The suffering of the prisoners

In a related context, a member of the movement's political bureau, Zaher Jabarin, said that the resistance in all its forms and spectrums will not allow prisoners to suffer in the occupation prisons.

He added - in statements published on the Hamas website - that the resistance has proven in all stages of the Palestinian struggle that it is qualified for any battle the prisoners wage.

He stressed that the basic right of the heroic prisoners and the work to liberate them is a duty of the resistance.

Jabareen pointed out that his movement is watching, moment by moment, everything that happens inside the prisons, adding that "our people will be the fortified shield of the prisoners, and we will stand behind our prisoners with all our political and legal capabilities."

For days, Israeli prisons have witnessed tense conditions.

In light of the punitive measures from the Prisons Authority, strikes and protest steps from the prisoners were met.

Israel holds about 4,500 Palestinian prisoners in its prisons, according to the latest statistics published at the end of last January.
