The Algerian judiciary convicts a former minister of 5 years in prison

Today, Thursday, the Algerian judiciary sentenced former Minister of Industry Djamila Tamazirt to five years in prison and a fine of about 2,000 euros for corruption.

The criminal pole specializing in financial and economic crimes at the Court of Sidi M’hamed in the Algerian capital, Tamazirt, convicted the misdemeanour of false declaration of property, abuse of position in order to obtain privileges, and granting undue benefits to others when concluding deals when she was director of the Qorso factory for government mills between 2009 and 2015, as well as Conflict of interests, with her acquitted of the misdemeanour of public funds and abuse of influence.

Her husband, Hafeez Akhanache, was convicted of two years in prison, the same sentence that was issued against Balkmi Nasir, the husband of Tamazert's sister, with an international arrest warrant issued against him.

The judge also issued a ruling ordering the confiscation of all movable proceeds of crime and funds deposited in bank accounts.
