A violent storm swept through Germany overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, causing no casualties but resulting in numerous cancellations of flights and trains.

Hurricane "Ylenia" concentrated in the morning on the regions of northern Hesse, Saxony and southern Brandenburg, according to the German weather service (DWD).

As a result, no long-distance trains are expected to run in the northern half of Germany before noon, train operator Deutsche Bahn said.

Cancellations and delays are also expected in regional traffic.

Lufthansa cancels 20 flights

The airline Lufthansa has canceled 20 flights, which affects connections to Berlin, Hamburg and Munich from Frankfurt am Main, the largest German airport.

Travelers were advised to check the German airline's website for the status of their flight.

At the height of the storm, winds of 152 kilometers per hour occurred on Wednesday on the Brocken, the highest point of the Harz massif, in the north of the country.

In many places, the authorities have warned against entering parks and forests, for example in Berlin and Hamburg.
