Dubai Municipality has warned against neglecting to take the required measures to protect residential buildings from the risk of fire accidents, especially during vacation periods, during which gatherings and household activities increase, considering that the occurrence of the largest number of such accidents results from the building owners not bearing their responsibility to fortify and protect the buildings .

Director of the Public Health and Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, Eng. Reda Salman, said that the outbreak of fires is closely related to the availability of firefighting means in the event of an outbreak, and the size and effectiveness of the preparations taken in the building, whether commercial or residential, to prevent fires.

Salman wished the residents of the emirate to spend happy and safe holidays, appealing to members of the public to be careful, follow safety procedures, and not neglect them as a result of being busy with family sessions and preparing foods.

He called on members of the public to be aware of the rules and instructions of the evacuation plan in the event of fires, because this greatly reduces the size of human and material losses.

Salman referred to a number of procedures followed in emergency evictions, the most important of which is the need to immediately contact the Civil Defense on the number (997) when in a safe place, and report the location of the fire by specifying the location of the apartment and the floor, as much as possible, and then follow the map of emergency exits, or Any of the available guidelines for evacuation.

He added that people who find themselves able can participate in putting out the fire, if it is small, using a fire extinguisher and a water hose.

As for people who doubt their ability to do so, ask them not to do so.

Salman stressed that collecting important documents and valuable possessions must be done immediately, and in no more than 10 seconds, and then hurry to leave the room after making sure that no one is inside.

Salman warned that the evacuation time in places where halon gas is used, or similar hazardous gases, should not exceed one minute.

He explained that the responsibility for providing security and safety conditions in the residential villas rests with the owners, while the owner or the company renting the apartments shares that responsibility with its residents, who have a duty to ensure that the building meets these conditions.

In the middle of this month, a fire broke out in a house in the Oud Al Muteena area of ​​Dubai, in which a family of nine was lying, causing massive damage, collapsing the walls of the building, uprooting its tiles, and completely damaging the furniture.

Salman added that the role of security personnel in residential buildings, or employees assigned to manage the building, is essential to prevent fires, because they must ensure the safety of the alarms deployed in the corridors and entrances of the building, in addition to making sure that fire extinguishers are available at the required points, and their continuous detection. On the waste room, to ensure that it is free of any incendiary materials that may interact with other materials to cause fires.

He added that residents of residential structures should take care of their homes, and carry out periodic maintenance work, in order to prevent creating fertile soil for fires, noting that they should check electrical connections, ensure their safety, and not wear their wires or any other factor that may turn them into a source of ignition to fire, such as their proximity to Hazardous chemicals.

It is noteworthy that the international building "codes" applied in the Emirate of Dubai require the construction of safe and immune buildings against fire and its dangers, in accordance with the regulations and standards of the construction and real estate development industry, which put the preservation of the health and safety of the emirate's residents at the forefront of its priorities.

It is noteworthy that Dubai Municipality conducts periodic control campaigns on buildings located in Dubai of all kinds, to ensure that there are certificates proving that the technical examination required to ensure the safety of elevators, in addition to conducting a check on the availability and effectiveness of firefighting means, as well as security and safety procedures in those buildings.
