A man has been indicted for intentional homicide by a partner following the suspicious death of his companion, discovered dead on Sunday in their home in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, near Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes).
The forty-year-old was imprisoned until his appearance before the judge of freedoms and detention on Friday, said the Grasse prosecution, confirming information from
Nice-Matin
.
Worried about not having any news, the sister of this 49-year-old woman went to their residence.
Greeted by her brother-in-law in a trance, she found the body that the latter had covered with a sheet, without warning the emergency services.
"There are still a lot of gray areas, we don't know in particular what the victim died of," said Alain Guimbard, deputy prosecutor in Grasse.
Autopsy and toxicological analyzes
The suspect explained that his concubine had fallen on her own before getting up without damage during an alcoholic evening.
He himself would then have fallen asleep and would not have noticed the death of his spouse until he woke up, also reported the deputy prosecutor.
His statements seem consistent with early forensic findings on time of death.
Apart from bruises, no injury that could explain the death of this woman born in 1973 does not appear on the body either.
“The results of the autopsy and especially of the toxicological analyzes will be decisive”, further noted the prosecutor, stressing that the suspect had “himself absorbed a large quantity of drugs”.
