The Cairo Criminal Court renewed the imprisonment of two Al Jazeera media network journalists, one of whom had exceeded the legal term of imprisonment, and the second was subjected to enforced disappearance and torture.

The court’s counseling room extended the detention of Al-Jazeera journalist and producer Hisham Abdel Aziz by 45 days pending investigations in Case No. 1956 of 2019, although it exceeded the maximum period of pretrial detention set by two years on last January 5.

And the 1956 case is the second for Abdel Aziz after he was rotated from one case to another, after he obtained a decision to release him - in a case dating back to 2018 - in December 2020, on a bail of 20 thousand pounds, but the decision was not implemented, and it was recycled with the same accusations in a case Another, after he was subjected to enforced disappearance for 24 days.

The same court also renewed the detention of Al Jazeera Mubasher journalist Bahaa El Din Ibrahim for 45 days pending investigations in a case dating back to 2018, according to which he was arrested from Burj Al Arab Airport in Alexandria on February 22, 2020, and was subjected to enforced disappearance, beatings and torture inside his prison, according to his wife’s version Muna Mahmoud.
