The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Islamic Jihad in Palestine called today, Tuesday, for an escalation of the resistance and popular movement in the West Bank;

To combat the "crimes of the occupation".

This came in two separate statements by the two movements, in response to the martyrdom of the Palestinian youth, Nuhad Amin Al-Barghouti, 20, who was shot by the Israeli army, following clashes between Palestinian youth and the occupation force in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health had announced the martyrdom of the young man, Barghouti, from the village of Kafr Ein, north of Ramallah (central West Bank), as the Israeli army shot him at the entrance to the village of Nabi Saleh, adjacent to his village.

Local sources said that the young man was wounded by a live bullet in the chest, and was taken for treatment to the Istishari Hospital in Ramallah, before he was declared dead.

Hamas mourned Barghouti, and said that his departure came after a journey of sacrifice and patience over two years of detention in the prisons of the occupation, to confirm that our people are still on their covenant with the resistance and confronting the occupation, according to it.

The movement added in its statement that "the blood of Barghouti, the blood of our martyrs and our wounded, and the sacrifices of our prisoners in the occupation prisons will result in a flame burning under the feet of the enemy."

The movement called on the Palestinians to go on the path of martyrs, escalate the resistance in all its forms, and fix the compass to confront the crimes of the occupier and its settlers, and not allow them to intrude on Palestinian blood, life, land and property.

For its part, the Islamic Jihad movement held Israel fully responsible for targeting the Palestinian people, and for its dangerous escalation of the pace of its attacks in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem.

In its statement, Al-Jihad called on the international community to assume its responsibilities, and to act against what the occupation forces are doing "in terms of terrorism against our people, violations, killing, demolition, confiscation of land and the Judaization of holy sites."

Clashes erupted today between dozens of young men and an Israeli force in the town of Nabi Saleh, during which the army used live and metal bullets and tear gas canisters.
