After several weeks of investigation, the mystery of the noise that made living hell for the inhabitants of Wizernes, in Pas-de-Calais, has finally been solved.

The end of a real hunt that saw local businesses, or even the 5G antenna, as suspect.

The mystery has finally been solved.

At the end of January, Europe 1 told you about the ordeal experienced by the inhabitants of the town of Wizernes, in Pas-de-Calais.

After a real hunt for unidentified noise for several weeks, the origin of the problem was found.

A real hunt for suspicious noise

It must be said that all the hypotheses had been combed through.

After an unsuccessful survey of local businesses, residents' suspicions turned to the area's 5G antenna.

But she was not yet in service.

The acoustician called on the spot to the rescue had not been of much help either.

And this is not surprising, since this shrill whistle could occur unexpectedly at any time of the day and night and suddenly disappear, making its location even more difficult.

After weeks of an investigation worthy of the greatest hours of thrillers, it was finally the GRDF technicians who managed to find the pot of roses.

By crisscrossing the city, they managed to identify a faulty gas meter on a house.

Bingo, it was the latter who was at the origin of this whistle.

Since Friday, he has therefore disappeared and residents like Mauricette have regained their peace of mind.

“We are all very relieved to no longer hear this noise”

"We are all very relieved to no longer hear this noise, everyone is happy", she says at the microphone of Europe 1. "The neighbor's baby no longer wakes up at night, and then we are quiet. That's what we wanted, that it be settled so that we can enjoy the outdoors a little bit when the weather is nice."

But above all Mauricette, like the other inhabitants, "hope it won't come back".

And if everyone in Wizernes still has the reflex to lend an ear to the slightest suspicious noise, for the moment nothing is to report.
