The end of traffic jams in the north of Madrid is getting a little closer.

Or so, at least, they propose in the City Council of the capital with the reform of the Nudo de Manoteras, which from tonight will see its first section completed with the opening of the

viaduct that joins the Carretera de Colmenar (N-607) with the Paseo de la Castellana

, one of the main traffic jam points for vehicles in the area.

This first step allows for the elimination

of the braiding of tracks that was produced at the height of the Ramón y Cajal University Hospital and the M-30

from Avenida de la Ilustracion with those cars that joined the Nudo Norte in the direction of Paseo de la Castellana, the M-11 or the M-30 itself.

Now with the appearance of the viaduct, this flow will be direct from the N-607.

They understand in Cibeles that this process will reduce traffic jams because it allows a more fluid circulation of vehicles coming from highly populated areas such as Tres Cantos, Montecarmelo, Mirasierra or Herrera Oria.

According to calculations by the Environment and Mobility Area,

the number of vehicles that will travel through the new structure is around 20,000

.

Those who will not have to change their route will be the drivers who circulate on the M-30 from Avenida de la Ilustracion to Paseo de la Castellana.

The current exit near the La Paz Hospital will continue to be maintained

as it is now in use.

But this viaduct, which

is 206 meters long, has a curved alignment with a radius of 500 meters and a single four-meter lane

, is only the first action that will put an end to the braided roads of the North Nude.

The following phases to decongest traffic in the area will consist of precisely eliminating the remaining braids and replacing them with three underpasses.

This new structure will also try to reduce the light and noise pollution suffered by the residents of the area.

The City Council of the capital has installed

a lighting system integrated into the viaduct itself

that will serve as a guide for the vehicles and will allow the current staffs to be eliminated at the end of the works.

In terms of noise, the intervention, which was not foreseen in the initial project of the work, arises from the complaints of the neighbors of the environment.

For this, the department led by Borja Carabante will

reforest the green embankment that separates Pedro Rico street from the M-30

so that a visual and acoustic screen can be created for the tenants with the planting of 50 leafy evergreen trees.

The reform of the Nudo Norte, included in the Madrid 360 mobility plan promoted by the City Council, is one of the great promises of the mandate of José Luis Martínez-Almeida to put an end to the continuous traffic jams in this part of the city.

According to the calculations of the Consistory itself, the elimination of the braids

will allow a saving of time in rush hour of 31% in the displacement of

private vehicles in a point where 34,000 cars are concentrated daily in the morning rush hour and 33,800 in the evening strip.

In addition, in the Palacio de Cibeles they argue that this action will also reduce pollution levels in the city, which together with Barcelona will face the Court of Justice of the European Union for not reducing its nitrogen dioxide emissions in recent years.

With this work, they point out in Cibeles,

14 tons of CO2 per day are reduced, 0.5% of those emitted

by road transport in the capital.
