• In Montpellier, the Milpa application allows you to receive part of the bill when shopping in responsible shops.

  • Reimbursement of shopping via the application is 5 to 10% on average in food shops, and even up to 20% for others.

  • About sixty shops in Montpellier are referenced by Milpa.

Cash-back, invented in the United States, has experienced a real boom in recent years in France.

More and more consumers are falling for this device, which allows them to be reimbursed for part of their purchases.

And more and more start-ups are jumping into the breach.

In Montpellier (Hérault), the Milpa application has adapted this concept to the social and solidarity economy.

By shopping in stores, physical or online, referenced by the company, part of the bill is directly transferred to the consumer's virtual wallet, within 48 hours.

Between 5 and 10% on average on food shops, and even up to 20% for others.

And when he wishes, he can credit his kitty to his bank account.

The consumer does not have to do anything to benefit from the device.

There is nothing to fill in, and no QR code to scan.

"It's fully automated," says Antoine Levan, who created Milpa with Estelle and Nicolas Huguet.

Only obligation: pay with a bank card.

The user's bank account is securely connected to the app, he continues.

We are notified of his payment to one of our partners, and we credit his kitty.

All this, without any data sharing.

“Responsible shops”

And it's free, for the user.

"It is our partners who finance this cash-back, to promote responsible consumption", explains the entrepreneur.

About sixty shops in Montpellier are referenced on the application.

Grocery stores, clothing, childcare, cosmetics, jewellery, toys and furniture stores… “These are responsible stores,” says Antoine Levan.

We have created a charter, on the recommendations of Ademe or the Organic Agency.

In food, for example, it's organic, bulk, zero waste, products that come directly from the producer.

For fashion, it's ethical fashion, or second-hand.

For cosmetics, these are labeled products, etc.

Our users know that when they are on Milpa, they will find shops whose values they share.

Among the shops referenced by Milpa, there is the Comptoirs de la bio, in Lattes.

“Milpa's great success is that it works very naturally,” confides Jean-Yves Crépin, the store manager.

On our side, we just have to collect the customer, and everything is done automatically.

And "Milpa makes it possible to attract new customers, who come to discover in the store what is going on", rejoices the trader.

Soon, it will even be possible to donate all or part of your kitty to associations.
