Finding a soul mate only among very practicing Catholics is what a brand new dating site, launched in early February, offers: Navis Fidelis.

Access conditions are strict, each user must be recommended by a clergyman, who certifies that the registered bachelor adheres to a traditionalist vision of marriage.

The site currently has nearly 300 subscribers.

A very traditional conception of love, put forward by modern means: this is the idea of the dating site Navis Fidelis, understand Navire Fidèle.

It all started with feedback from some Catholics, disappointed by their love experience on dating sites.

"These Catholics met Internet users indicating, on their profile, to be practicing. Then they discovered that there was a mismatch between what was displayed on the profile, and the reality, at the time of the meeting", details at the microphone of Europe 1 Etienne de Saint-Victor, co-founder of Navis Fidelis.

Marriage goal

This is where the idea of a new kind of dating site germinated, focused on specific needs and desires.

The members "are against the plan of an evening, a month, or even a year. At Navis Fidelis, if people agree, it is to lead to a marriage".

And the members adhere to one rule in particular, the absence of sexual relations before marriage.

To do this, they sign a charter, the principles of which, other than "living an engagement in chastity and continence", are as follows: to be celibate and baptized, to go to mass every Sunday, to confess regularly, to want to to marry in the church, to have a "Christian" behavior during the events proposed by other members and to pray that the latter realize their "divine vocation" and "always strive for holiness".

An ecclesiastical referent

At the time of registration, the user must enter the details of a priest or a nun, who certifies that all the rules of the charter are respected.

The clergyman is thus contacted by the site team, before validating the admission.

A traditionalist vision of Catholicism defended by Father Spriest, also founder of Navis Fidelis: "What we ask to register on the site is just the Gospel!"

"It is not just those who say 'Lord, lord' who will enter the kingdom of God, but those who put the word of God into practice," he said again at the microphone of Europe 1.

Another point of divergence with a classic dating site, it is not possible to get to know each other via interposed screens.

Navis Fidelis only allows users to offer meeting places to get to know each other in real life, and therefore according to well-defined religious values.

Strict and unprecedented conditions that have attracted nearly 300 people since the beginning of February.
