According to Olle Hedberg, CEO of the company, it is the green investment in the northern part of Sweden that makes them choose to explore the possibility of building an offshore wind farm.

- So far we have invested in southern Sweden.

But given the industrial development and the fact that more electricity will be needed for the green transition, we see this as an opportunity to be involved and create the conditions for it, he says.

Can be 135 wind turbines

According to Olle Hagberg, the company has chosen to investigate a larger area, in waters belonging to Haparanda and Kalix territorial waters.

At present, it is not possible to say anything about how many wind turbines there may be in the area - and Hagberg also believes that it would be misleading to say anything about how expensive the investment will be.

- We do not know until we have carried out the survey and it is also the one who can give an idea of the time aspect, he says.

Would cover six percent of all electricity production

On Wpd's website, the German company that owns the project and will own the wind farm, if it gets rid of, states that the area at full capacity could accommodate 135 wind turbines.

This in turn would mean that they have the capacity to produce 7-9 terrawatt per year, which according to Wpd would correspond to just over six percent of Sweden's total electricity production.
