Frank-Walter Steinmeier has been re-elected as Federal President and thus has a second term ahead of him.

He received 1,045 out of 1,437 votes cast in the Federal Assembly on Sunday.

This was announced by Bundestag President Bärbel Bas (SPD).

The candidate of the free voters, Stefanie Gebauer, accounted for 58 votes, 40 votes more than expected.

Gerhard Trabert, who had been proposed by the Left Party, also received 96 more votes than the Left Party had sent.

Max Otte, who was put up by the AfD, got eleven votes fewer than expected, only 140. There were 86 abstentions.
