Sebastian Wysocki from the CDU will be the new mayor in the largest municipality in Wetterau.

The 37-year-old First City Councilor won the second round of voting on Sunday with 53.0 percent.

His competitor Clemens Breest from the Green Party accounted for 47.0 percent.

Wysocki went into the runoff as the favorite because he was clearly ahead after the first round with 46.6 percent.

The chairman of the Bad Vilbeler Grünen and honorary city councilor Breest reached 28.2 percent two weeks ago.

Gunther Salomon, who had been nominated by the SPD, and Anja Nina Kramer from the ranks of the FDP were eliminated.

Salomon had reached 18.6 percent, Kramer 6.6 percent.

The eliminated applicants and their parties did not make any recommendations for the second ballot, but it is noticeable that Breest was able to increase by almost 20 percentage points and Wysocki by a good six percentage points.

Above all, however, the 49-year-old Breest was able to score significantly better this time than when he ran for the first time six years ago, when he was clearly defeated by incumbent Thomas Stöhr (CDU).

For personal reasons, Stöhr decided not to run again and to retire after 18 years at the head of the city administration.
