The White House announced that US President Joe Biden has nominated Colombian Ambassador to Korea Philip Goldberg as US ambassador to Korea.

The US ambassador to Korea has been vacant for over a year since the resignation of Ambassador Harry Harris in January of last year.

Nominee Goldberg served as the State Department's coordinator for the implementation of UN sanctions against North Korea from 2009 to 2010 during the Barack Obama administration, overseeing the implementation of UN Sanctions Resolution 1874 against North Korea and coordinating related international cooperation.
