José Manuel Cobos, 54, threw himself out of a third-floor window at number 1 Palafox street in Móstoles (Madrid) when a judicial commission was going to evict him for non-payment of rent for the house where he allegedly lived with his parent.

He suffered very serious injuries, but he saved his life.

It happened last Thursday, January 20.

When going up to his apartment, the firefighters found the mummified corpse of his 83-year-old father in a room.

He had been dead for about 18 months and was under a bed in a room, according to Telemadrid.

Anthropologists are now trying to discover the cause of the octogenarian's death.

For many years José Manuel Cobos worked in construction until a decade ago he became unemployed.

He separated from his wife in 2014 and went to live with his father in Móstoles.

It is estimated that a few months after the start of the pandemic, in the summer of 2020, the parent could have died.

The last time the octogenarian was seen alive was in June 2020. His son did not notify anyone of his death to continue collecting his father's pension due to lack of income, according to the investigators who have found out that each month he was to the bank to withdraw the pension money.

The apartment on Calle de Palafox where José Manuel's father lived was for rent.

And since his son arrived, the receipts were not paid, so the owner denounced him for non-payment after several requests and began an eviction process.

José Manuel refused to leave the house and on January 20 the alleged eviction of the house proceeded.

When the judicial commission called the house, the man jumped off the balcony into an interior patio.

He ended up with several crushed vertebrae, ruptured spleen and hip, and head trauma.

He is admitted to the Puerta de Hierro hospital and the National Police have not yet been able to question him, since he assures that he does not remember anything of what happened.

At the moment, he could face a crime for social security fraud.

Nor did José Manuel ever pay the pension to his ex-wife.

The

lawyer of his former partner, Alberto Martín, has explained that the divorce is "

made by mutual agreement and an agreement was signed that was never fulfilled because he did not pay the pension at any time, despite the fact that he did know that he had worked for at least 20 years". The lawyer explained that the In order to avoid paying the money to his wife, a man "married himself and isolated himself and stopped having relationships with his neighbors and his two brothers. " "His ex-wife and her daughter have had infinite patience because seven or eight years have passed without make any complaint and precisely when we made the civil claim for the amounts that he owed, the Police notified them saying that he had thrown himself at his house in Móstoles", added the lawyer who ignores the amount of José Manuel's father's pension and what he did with that money. However, the lawyer assures that "José Manuel knew very well what he was doing and that he had everything planned, since he hid his father's body in order to continue collecting his pension.

The only two families who lived in the block on Calle Palafox in Móstoles had not seen José Manuel's father for a long time.

They were a little surprised because they didn't know anything about him and because the windows of the house were always open, even when the great snow fell from Filomena.

Another neighbor in the area said that the octogenarian had two children, but José Manuel prevented them from entering.

One of the few neighbors who lived in the building pointed out that

on January 20 they got a big scare when they saw

José Manuel fall to his patio: "We found him lying on the floor of our patio when they were evicting him, strange is that we had not seen him for a long time, but we never thought that he could be there deceased.

The lawyer Alberto Martín assures that "perhaps this man

could have died because he has not had attention, because he has not had food or due to lack of medication

. If he has not died suddenly and if he was a person who was getting worse, José Manuel has a responsibility because he should have notified the doctors, the social services or whoever it was to try to assist him," the lawyer stressed.

For Alberto Martín, furthermore, if the man had paid the rent "the case could have lasted forever, since he did not speak to anyone, not even his daughter. It is clear that he is a strange character and that when he is discharged he will have to testify in court and must explain what happened to his father.
