The Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Adel Karim, said that talks with Qatar are underway to import gas, according to the Iraqi official agency.

The agency quoted Karim as saying that the process of importing Qatari gas would be completed within a year or 15 months if the capabilities were available, adding, "We signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia to import energy."

And last Monday, the Iraqi News Agency reported that Minister Adel Karim discussed with Qatari Energy Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi the possibility of supplying gas to Iraq, to ​​address and fill the shortage of gas to maintain the momentum of the production plants.

The agency also quoted the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity as saying - in a statement - that during a quick visit by the Iraqi Minister of Electricity to Qatar, all logistical issues needed to supply gas through Qatari ports to Iraq's ports were discussed.

With regard to Saudi Arabia, the Iraqi minister indicated that the line with it will be through Arar - Yusufiya and with a new system, indicating that the first phase of importing energy from Saudi Arabia is estimated at 500 megawatts and the second at 1,000 megawatts.

The Iraqi minister explained that the import line from Saudi Arabia is different from the line from the Gulf.
