Dismissal canceled
After more than ten years of proceedings and a reversal of the French justice which had initially pronounced a dismissal, the company and the aircraft manufacturer had lodged appeals in cassation against their referral to correctional.
But the Court of Cassation ruled their appeals inadmissible last August, definitively confirming the holding of a trial.
“Thirteen years were needed to finally get a trial to take place.

Sanctioning “culpable negligence”
“Finally, we are entitled to hope that a fair and just trial against Airbus and Air France from October 2022 will sanction the culpable negligence and failures in aviation safety that led to this tragedy: 228 victims are waiting for justice is done to them,” she added.

Air France denies any "criminal fault"
"Air France will continue to demonstrate, now before the criminal court, that [she] did not commit criminal misconduct at the origin of this accident", reacted the company to AFP.

The return of black boxes
Flight AF447 between Rio de Janeiro and Paris crashed in the middle of the Atlantic on June 1, 2009. The pilots were disoriented by a technical failure in the middle of the unstable weather zone of the “doldrums”.
They had not managed to catch the stall of the A330, resulting in the death of 216 passengers and 12 crew members.
The wreckage and the black boxes were found two years later, nearly 4,000 m deep.
