The man, who is in his 50s, got in touch with the woman when she moved to Örebro in 2018, after which they began a relationship.

He began the blackmail by claiming that his wife had heard about the affair and that her brother was part of a criminal network.

If the woman did not send a certain amount of money, the wife would "send her brother to her".

Blackmailed and exploited

In the following months, the man pretended to be different people in the criminal network and demanded the woman for more and more money.

She was forced to withdraw all her savings, take out large loans and even sell her home.

He then forced her into prostitution so that she could give more and more money to the organization.

In the verdict, the woman testified that she was eventually forced to meet four to five customers a day and pay SEK 80,000 a month.

She and her family were threatened with death time and time again and the district court rules the man's threats as particularly ruthless.

The man also raped the woman on two occasions.

Five million in damages

He is now sentenced to six years in prison for rape, aggravated procuring and aggravated extortion and must pay damages for extorted funds, violation, pain and suffering, loan interest and apartment rents totaling more than five million kronor.

Since there is a risk that the man will try to avoid paying damages, the district court has decided on a lien, ie that the Swedish Enforcement Agency secures the property.
