A 36-year-old man was sentenced in the Yvelines on Wednesday to ten months in prison suspended for trafficking in contraband tobacco.
Two days earlier, he had been checked by customs officers with 41 kilos of rolling tobacco in his car, reports 78actu.
The man was leaving the pound in Poissy, where he had just picked up his car, when he was checked.
The police then found 79 boxes of rolling tobacco in the vehicle;
merchandise estimated at more than 19,000 euros.
Confiscated car and money
The man admitted reselling the tobacco to those around him in order to make a lot of money.
According to him, he benefited from the help of a friend who got his supplies in Luxembourg on three occasions.
During the search of the home of the thirties, the police found 6,000 euros in cash.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court also ordered the confiscation of the car and more than 5,500 euros.
The defendant will have to pay a customs fine of 19,137 euros.
