The threat to Ukraine and the entire European security system remains.

This was stated by Magdalena Andersson in connection with her first physical visit by the Prime Minister to Berga naval base in Haninge.

Russia's demands for security guarantees threaten, among other things, Sweden's military cooperation with other countries, not least the United States.

- It threatens the collaborations that Sweden has built up in recent years, Andersson says.

In connection with Wednesday's visit, the Prime Minister announced that the Swedish Armed Forces and the Swedish Defense Materiel Administration will be instructed to report until 24 February which advances of planned defense initiatives are possible.

- It is important to make that kind of trade-off.

This should not be shot from the hip, says Andersson.

Calls for increased preparedness

SVT has previously reported that the Moderates want to add three billion to the defense this year after the Russian escalation near Ukraine.

The money will, among other things, go to ammunition, spare parts and more personnel.

- The defense must be strengthened in an emergency situation.

We already have an underfunded defense.

Now we must increase our preparedness and ensure that we have the capacity needed if they get even worse in our vicinity, says party leader Ulf Kristersson.

Discussions await

Magdalena Andersson does not rule out more money for the defense this spring.

The government will have discussions with the parliamentary parties in the defense committee next week.

Then resources to speed up the Swedish rearmament will be discussed.

- There are opportunities in the budget that will come in the spring to see, there are things we can do to support the defense here and now, says the Prime Minister.
